The snowdrops last gasp

Although our land is still very much in the grip of winter it is time to say goodbye to the snowdrops. I visited a woodland in Beetham, north Lancashire to catch the final farewell of these ephemeral flowers.

The day was suitably dark, wet and muddy and after a couple of hours on my belly in the woodland so was I. It was the only way to tell the story of the decay into the woodland floor, and I felt myself being absorbed by the damp and cold too.

Pure monochrome delineates the fine structures and best explores the interplay between the snowdrops and the dark that surrounds them.
