Pond Clearing

dredging rubbish out of a pond (Jason Smalley)Urban ponds can often be used as easily accessible rubbish dumps, after all the refuse thrown into them disappears from view. Out of sight out of mind. This shoot was commissioned by Lancashire Environmental Fund to highlight the work they’re doing to help local communities tackle the problem.

Here, a group of locals work hard to clear a pond of fly-tipped rubbish ranging from mattresses and bicycles to vacuum cleaners and old wheels. I’m sure the local duck population appreciate it!
