Autumnal Roe Buck

After a few days down Kent chasing foxes it was good to be back up North in familiar countryside. I decided to pay a quick visit to the local herd of roe deer to see how they were faring.

Despite much searching I found only this buck who had obviously come off worse for wear in an early rutting fight. The loss of an antler, whilst not having a long term impact, will drastically reduce his chances of challenging the alpha males of the area.

I these shots he’s listening to a group of walkers who are on the lane adjacent to the field before heading off to the safety of the open field.
