I’ve spent countless hours working with the whooper swans as they arrive in from the cold reaches of their breeding grounds and after a while I was seeing nothing new.

This small set of shots was taken over a couple of hours as the sun sank in a clear sky. I was determined to find a new vision that still spoke of swan and found my clarity in long exposures.

Initially I intended to render the images as black and white but the beautiful golden light would have been wasted.

There are two or three in the mix that are split toned monochromes, but apart from those they are more or less as they came out of the camera.

As yet I've not produced anything of this set, however I will create a limited edition handmade book soon.
