We had an amazing evening at the Imbolc Fire Festival in the sleepy Pennine town of Marsden on Saturday. Despite the driving rain and winds several hundred people turned out after to dark to walk with the procession to Tunnel End. Drums accompanied us, beating a rhythm to which we marched.
The fire show was raw and pagan with masked, robed figures playing with fire backed by a barrage of flame and fireworks. This is one of the only festivals in Britain that truly celebrates the turning of the wheel in the old pagan way, respecting the flow of nature and connecting to the elements that have supported and ended life through the millenia.
